Katarzyna Draconina Górnisiewicz | Detailed or mini-review submissions: song, EP/album | Suggest an artist Spookshow inc. feat. Kissing In Graveyards - Underworld (song review) |self-released, 2015|
Spookshow inc., as the band’s name may already indicate, loves making tense music. Their tracks on Visions of The Blinded World (pt. 1) proved this, but their most recent collaboration with Kissing in Graveyards - a spooky match made in a morgue, most likely, brings forth a real scare too.
This mostly electronic yet guitar-driven song is accented with a broad selection of vocals - once tempting and seductive, then screaming. Kissing in Graveyards' lead singer Rylan Chaos brings her Lilith-like artistic personality here while Soltex represents provocative masculine energy. When Rylan's voice is the bait, then Soltex's is the whip. The result is a musical dialogue not too far from an argument between two 'possessed' souls, rather than two talented musicians.
When it comes to instrumentation, the chunky guitar riffs are looped and kept in vein of industrial rock music as popularised by KMFDM - but you will hear a bit of soloing, too. The drum beats are enjoyable as they bring the right depth and density. The bass sounds a bit muddy, but it’s the drums that drive the tempo and overall dynamics here. With the addition of modern electronica skilfully provided through synths and samples, the song may be enjoyed by fans of other music genres too.
"Underworld" is a good opportunity to be prepared for the Visions of The Blinded World (pt. 2) album that should be coming later this year.
