No matter if we are in the USA or Poland I guess that band is not quite well known, but no worries, H founded in Canadian London in 1992 released only one long play album, an EP and a single, plus a few other songs on a compilation „Continuum” put out by Spider Records.
It’s very difficult to find any piece of information about H band at all. It’s clear though Anthony Hudson is the band’s founder who has been remixing mostly electronic, house and break beat music for the last couple of years under "(The Incredible) Melting Man" moniker.
Anthony H (as he signed his works in H band) appears on „Stability’s End” accompanied by Chicago based Die Warzau and Wax Bean Orchard. Their remixes complete that 16 songs album filled up with the sound of first coldwave, then electronic and industrial rock finally.
„Stability’s End” is the album which contains both remixes and original versions of the songs initially released on a debut album called „H”. Coldwave tunes were put to „Disease”, „Old”, „Trench” and „Clear”, while that last song reminds me some vibe of the tracks by Diatribe but also Razed in Black or The Sect thanks to guitar riffs and drums mixed all together.
„Flowers” became my favourite song just right after the first listening. An atmosphere of that track recalls more or less new romantics fame brought by such artists like Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby or Icehouse. H enriched the song with cool guitar riffs in the background and not that much new romantic vocals to avoid sloppy tunes.
The other example of a kind of romantic song is „See”. On the other hand a very simple but also a very interesting song „No” recalls the sound of Die Krupps or some tracks by Hate Dept.
The other half of the album is filled up with both gloomy and experimental tracks you could find on albums by Numb, Skinny Puppy or Ministry like „Stability”, „Destroy You”, „Reefers”, „Reply”, and four remixes of which „Do It Yourself (Wax Bean Orchard remix)” I found the most interesting (if I am ‘forced’ to like remixes at all for that review). Then what’s so cool about it? A progressive structure, rad samples with dynamic rhythm and a close connection to the original song are the features which made my ears interested.
It’s the album for all of you looking for some new addons for your CD collection and die hard fans of coldwave style. ( Katarzyna NINa Górnisiewicz. Must not be used for promotional or commercial purposes. See a Legal Note for the copyrights below)
